 Eligibility for appearing in JEE (Main)

Age Limit: 

between 16-24 years of age on the first day of the October of the year of examination can attempt JEE (Main). However, the upper age limit for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates has been reduced by 5 years. only the date of birth as recorded in the Secondary Education Board/University certificate will be considered.

Educational Qualifications:

Only those candidates who have passed their Class 12th Exam or any other qualifying examination are eligible to appear in JEE (Main).

candidates must have completed at least five subjects in class 12th/any other Qualifying examination in order to be eligible for writing JEE (Main). candidates who have taken four subjects are not allowed to write JEE (Main), and their rank/result will not be declared if such candidates appear in JEE(Main) by providing incorrect information.

Eligibility for Admission to NITs, IIITs and CFTIs participating through SEAT ALLOCATION BOARD

Admission to NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs participating through the Central Counselling Board will be based on All India Rank. the candidate must have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th class examination, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class examination conducted by the respective Boards. the qualifying marks for SC/ST candidates would be 65% in the 12thclass examination. in the qualifying examination for admission to B.E and B.Arch./B. NITs, IIITs, and other CFTIs are to be organized as follows.

Eligibility for Admission to Other Institutions

other Technical Institutions that participate in counselling through JoSAA/CSAB may also follow the above-mentioned model.
in the engineering Colleges affiliated to state Universities, the State may create a separate rank list based on criteria decided by them if a State decides to admit students in the engineering Colleges affiliated to state Universities.

Number of seats in various institutions

Unlike the JEE (Main) secretariat/CBSE, the JEE (Main) secretariat/CBSE is only an examination conducting body. the information is passed over to the SEAT ALLOCATION BOARD or the appropriate state government/institute for Seat Allocation Procedure and admission procedure after declaration of results. the JEE (Main) secretariat does not collect the data regarding the total number of seats available in the institutions and the reservation criteria followed by the institutions. candidates are encouraged to refer to the website of JOSAA, Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB), or the concerned state government/institute for all admission related procedures/questions after declaration of JEE ranks (Main). JEE (Main) secretariat/CBSE will not accept letters/e-mails regarding admissions related policies/questions.

Reservation of seats

As per Government of India rules candidates belonging to certain categories are admitted to seats reserved for them based on relaxed criteria. These categories are:

  1. Other Backward Classes (OBC) if they belong to Non Creamy Layer (NCL)
  2. Scheduled Castes (SC)
  3. Scheduled Tribes (ST)
  4. Persons with Disability (PwD) with 40% or more disability
the benefit of reservation for admission to NITs/IIITs/CFTIs will only be given to those classes/castes/tribes that are on the respective central list published by the Govt of India.
the reservation laws of that state shall prevail for admission to State Engineering colleges that have chosen to apply through JEE (Main) secretariat/CBSE.

Seat Allocation Process and Admission Procedure

selected based on their preferences and All India Ranks of JEE (Main) will be announced later in a Seat Allocation Process. Candidates are encouraged to check the JEE(Main) website http://jeemain. During the Seat Allocation Process/admission, the verification of documents will be carried out. the purpose of the investigation would be to verify various records regarding the candidate's identity, age, qualification examination, state of eligibility, classification, and disability (if any). Upon failing to produce any of the authentic documents, the applicant will not be considered for admission.

candidates who are SC, ST, OBC, and PwD candidates will be required to present original certificate issued by the competent authority at the time of Seat Allocation Process as well as at the time of admission, failing which they will not be considered for admission.
